Job description

The Clinical Measurements Receptionist provides a professional, efficient, and patient-focused reception and administrative service within the Clinical Measurements Department. Acting as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals, the postholder will be responsible for welcoming patients, managing appointment attendance, handling telephone and email enquiries, and supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the department.

Working Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 16:30, the postholder will play a key role in ensuring patients receive a positive experience from arrival through to completion of their visit. The role supports a busy diagnostic service and requires excellent communication, organisational, and customer service skills to manage a high volume of enquiries while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

The receptionist will work closely with clinical and administrative colleagues to support efficient patient pathways, maintain accurate patient records, and contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, responsive service that meets Trust standards and patient expectations.

Main duties of the job
  • As the first point of contact for patients, visitors, carers, and healthcare professionals, the postholder will welcome patients attending appointments, ensure accurate patient registration, update demographic details, and support a positive patient experience. The role includes managing patient arrivals and ensuring clinical staff are informed of patient attendance.
  • The postholder will respond to telephone and face-to-face enquiries, providing information and support in a courteous and professional manner. They will book, amend, cancel, and reschedule appointments in line with departmental procedures and support the effective utilisation of clinic capacity.
  • The receptionist will work closely with clinical and administrative colleagues to support the smooth running of diagnostic services, helping to maintain efficient patient pathways and minimise delays.
  • The role requires excellent communication, organisational, and customer service skills, with the ability to prioritise a varied workload in a busy environment. The postholder will deal sensitively with patients who may be anxious or require additional support and will promote a welcoming and inclusive environment for all service users.
  • The successful candidate will comply with all Trust policies and procedures, participate in mandatory training, support service improvements, and help maintain a safe, efficient, and high-quality service.
