Job summary

NHS Jobs is seeking a Community Diagnostic Centre Reception Apprentice to provide first point of contact for patients and carers arriving for outpatient appointments. You will support the full reception service, update patient information, capture timings and arrange future appointments, while maintaining professional and empathetic patient care.

You will also handle telephone enquiries, coordinate with consultants and staff, prioritise tasks, and contribute to a collaborative outpatient team

Responsibilities

• Provide first point of contact for patients, relatives and carers arriving for outpatient appointments or admissions in a professional, calm and confident manner.
• Deliver full reception service for the outpatient clinic: maintain patient demographics in the PAS system, support accessible information standards, capture arrival/departure times, and manage clinic outcomes and non-attendance records.
• Update and process documentation using manual and computerised systems as required.
• Answer and handle telephone enquiries professionally, taking accurate messages and passing details to the appropriate team.
• Liaise with consultants, secretaries and other support services to ensure enquiries and appointments are dealt with efficiently.
• Prioritise and complete work in a timely manner and provide receptionist cover as directed within the clinic or ward.
• Participate as a member of the outpatient team and communicate effectively with colleagues.
• Communicate all information and messages to patients in a professional and sensitive manner.
• Handle photocopying, filing, audio transcription and record keeping as required.
