Main Purpose of the Role
To provide administrative and technical support within the Revenues service, maintaining customer accounts, processing Council Tax and Business Rates transactions, handling routine customer enquiries, and producing accurate financial, statistical and performance information.
Typical Day
- Process Council Tax and Business Rates payments, amendments and Direct Debits.
- Update and maintain customer records and computerised databases.
- Respond to routine customer enquiries by phone and in writing.
- Process and index incoming documents using document management systems.
- Run system reports and prepare data into clear, usable formats.
- Complete reconciliations and investigate payment or account discrepancies.
- Support system testing, updates and troubleshooting.
- Liaise with IT, software suppliers and internal departments to resolve system issues.
- Maintain spreadsheets, databases, guidance notes and service documentation.
- Process purchase orders and invoices.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- GCSE English/Welsh and Maths at grades A-C or equivalent.
- Strong IT skills and experience working with computerized systems.
- Good knowledge of databases and Microsoft/Windows-based software.
- Experience working in a busy office environment.
- Experience dealing with routine customer enquiries.
- Understanding of confidentiality and Data Protection requirements.
- Ability to manage and manipulate system information accurately.
- Strong communication, teamwork and customer-service skills.
- Ability to use initiative, exercise sound judgement and find practical solutions.
