As Operations Manager at Applus, you will be responsible for the operational management of inspection activities. Your main goal is to ensure that projects are completed while maintaining and improving safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.
Your responsibilities will include:
Daily Operations
- Manage the daily running of all site activities
- Scheduling production resource
- Maintain training plan
- Action and resolve staff issues, including disciplinary action
- Reporting safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance
- Liaise with external service and equipment providers
- Ensure adherence to TPM and calibration schedules
Leadership
- Ensure safe and proper use of all materials, tools, and equipment on site, following relevant standards and procedures
- Maintain copies of all Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality documents, and procedures
- Lead and support Team Leaders and maintain clear, consistent communication across teams
- Support staff hiring, appraisals, and development, including training plan
- Identify appropriate deputies and ensure effective succession planning, encourage personal growth and continuing development of direct reports
- Work closely with other Company geographical locations to ensure operational resource levels are maintained
Quality Standards
- Work closely with the Quality Manager to build a strong relationship and support site development
- Maintain the company’s quality procedures and ensure ongoing compliance
- Identify and report any non-conformance in the quality system and execution of corrective and preventative action, ensuring they are up to date
- Lead/assist during external audits from customers/regulatory authorities
Client Relations
- Liaise between client and company personnel to ensure work is carried out according to an agreed schedule and within the terms of the contract
- Attend meetings focused on fabrication, quality, and operational issues
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting to clients
Financial Targets
- Ensure the site meets or exceeds its sales and profit goals
- Authorise spending within approved limits (e.g., equipment, training, expenses, timesheets, leave requests
- Approve invoices before submission when required
Technical Expertise
- Stay updated on product and technical developments and discuss them with when needed. Is this an absolute requirement
- Support the research and development of NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) techniques such as UT, VT, PT, and RT
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Experienced people leader, working in a fast paced and dynamic production environment
- Customer facing, able to communicate effectively, problem solve, and adapt to changing workloads
- Background in precision engineering, testing and inspection environment; experience working to ASME standards
- Project management
- Continuous improvement and lean initiatives
Desirable
- PCN Level 2 or 3 in Radiographic Testing (RT), included lapsed certifications that can be renewed
- Radiation safety experience
- Strong understanding of all major NDT methods and industry standards
