Job summary

Xcede is seeking an experienced Onsite Hardware Engineer for a 12-month fixed term contract in Southampton. The role requires hands-on diagnostics, repair and maintenance of enterprise hardware across legacy and modern platforms in a highly critical environment.

You will work onsite from the workshop and in multiple machine rooms, maintaining performance and availability of essential IT infrastructure while supporting colleagues and customer stakeholders. SC clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Hands-on hardware diagnostics and repair in enterprise environments.
• Strong fault-finding, diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience in high-availability or mission-critical environments.
• Knowledge of IBM mainframes and associated storage systems.
• On-site, customer-facing role with clear communication.
• Active SC Clearance is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite L2/L3 hardware support across enterprise infrastructure.
• Diagnose, repair and maintain IBM mainframes, storage, and servers.
• Support legacy and modern equipment including PCs and printers.
• Apply electro-mechanical repair techniques and soldering where needed.
• Investigate and resolve complex hardware faults in a critical environment.
• Carry out preventative maintenance and improve system reliability.
• Document processes and participate in technical meetings with stakeholders.
