Job summary

WSP seeks an HV Cable Engineer within its Offshore Engineering Team to deliver HVAC/HVDC cable design tasks from concept to detailed design. You will contribute to project delivery with qualified engineers, apply electrical calculations, and support procurement, installation and commissioning activities.

You will work in a client-facing role, liaising with stakeholders, and collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality and commercially effective outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Apply knowledge of HVAC inter-array and export cable systems, typically operating between 66 kV and 132 kV, to support cable sizing, design basis documentation, design reports and current-rating studies.
• Support the design of HVDC interconnector cable systems, including systems rated up to 525 kV, under guidance of experienced engineers.
• Develop practical knowledge of static and dynamic cable applications, recognising when specialist input or escalation is required.
• Translate client and project requirements into well-defined cable engineering outputs alongside multidisciplinary teams.
• Prepare and check calculations covering cable ratings, electrical characteristics, mechanical loads, pull-in tensions and installation constraints.
• Contribute to proposals and small project extensions by preparing technical scopes and tender information.
