Role

Forbes Solicitors are looking for a Newly Qualified Solicitor or Duty Solicitor to join our Crime team based at our Salford office. This is a full-time role working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am until 5pm.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Newly Qualified Solicitor or a Duty Solicitor to progress their career and bring their skills and knowledge to a collaborative and professional team. The role offers a sustainable work-life balance and relates to the regional area in which it is based.

Responsibilities include:

• Handling a full range of Criminal Defence cases for Private and Legal Aid clients, including complex and sensitive cases;
• Attending Court hearings for various criminal defence cases;
• Representing clients detained at police stations, conducting advocacy in Magistrates/Crown Court, and attending to clients outside of office hours;
• Providing written and verbal legal advice;
• Communicating with clients, opponents, Courts/Tribunals, and third parties to progress files;
• Supporting other Criminal advisors and contributing to departmental strategy and business objectives;
• Ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements such as SQM/LAA, ISO:9001, SRA Principles, and Court deadlines;
• Monitoring and reporting on personal financial and business performance;
• Contributing to internal improvements, innovation, and knowledge sharing;
• Supporting inter-departmental collaboration on files, projects, and events;
• Developing the departmental business plan;
• Building relationships with clients and enhancing the firm’s profile to drive growth;
• Participating in business development activities like training, articles, and submissions.

The Person

Applicants will be assessed on their knowledge, experience, and skills, including:

• SRA or CILEx qualified (or working towards it by September 2025);
• Experience in Criminal Law and dealing with Criminal clients;
• Knowledge of Criminal Law;
• Experience in Magistrates and/or Crown Court work;
• Ability to handle own caseload, meet deadlines, and generate fees;
• Client care skills and experience providing legal advice in accordance with SRA Code of Conduct;
• Proficiency in IT skills (Outlook, Word, etc.);
• Teamwork ability;
• Alignment with the firm’s values;
• Strong organizational and attention to detail skills;
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable: Duty Solicitor status or willingness to work towards it.
