Job summary

Telford & Wrekin Council is seeking a Compliance Officer for the Night-Time Economy Team. You will conduct inspections of licensed premises, assess licensing applications and support enforcement actions to uphold regulatory standards across the borough.

The role requires strong communication, investigative capability and the ability to work flexibly, including after-hours periods. A hybrid pattern is in place with office attendance twice a week.

• Experience of supporting, mentoring or developing colleagues.

• Experience in leading investigations and managing enforcement casework.
• Flexible working hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays where necessary.
• Knowledge of Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act 2005, LGM (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976, Taxi and Private Hire Licensing and related regulatory frameworks desirable.
• Full UK driving licence and access to vehicle for business use.

Responsibilities

• Carry out inspections of businesses across the borough, including licensed premises and various licensing regimes.
• Review and assess licensing applications, providing regulatory advice and supporting compliance and enforcement activities.
• Build strong relationships with businesses, residents, partner agencies and enforcement bodies.
• Undertake proactive project work within the night-time economy.
• Contribute to local and national enforcement initiatives relevant to night-time economy.
• Identify breaches of legislation and determine appropriate enforcement action.
• Accurately record data and complete licensing-related administration.
• Prepare reports, draft witness statements and prosecution files.
• Represent the Council in court proceedings and licence hearings.
