Job summary

Whyte and Mackay is recruiting a Network Administrator to secure and improve our core IT infrastructure from Head Office in Glasgow with hybrid working (minimum 2 days in office). The role reports to the Head of Business Systems and involves managing network, storage, and cloud platforms, plus cyber security initiatives across sites.

The successful candidate will maintain VMware DR, VxRail, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, while supporting MXDR and audits.

Qualifications

• Hands-on admin experience with Windows Server in business-critical environments.
• Experience with hyper-converged infrastructure and cloud disaster recovery.
• Strong networking knowledge incl. Meraki, DNS, DHCP, VLANs and firewalls.
• Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, with hybrid services.
• Knowledge of Exchange, SQL Server, and reporting.
• PowerShell scripting and automation capability.
• Understanding of cyber security, vulnerability management and MXDR.
• Awareness of Cyber Essentials Plus and ITGC controls.
• Vendor certifications or equivalent practical experience are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Administer, secure and improve core IT infrastructure, network and backup platforms.
• Act as escalation point for complex infrastructure and security issues.
• Maintain VxRail, VMware DR and disaster recovery, ensuring resilience.
• Manage network infrastructure, including Meraki, DNS, DHCP, VLANs and firewalls.
• Administer Microsoft 365, Entra ID and hybrid services.
• Support Exchange and SQL Server environments and reporting.
• Contribute to cyber security activities and audits.
• Develop PowerShell automation to improve operations.
• Provide escalation support to Service Desk and document fixes.
• Collaborate on infrastructure and security projects with partners.
