Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project, based at the Redcar site or across offices in Maxim, Newcastle or Warrington. The role focuses on ventilation design deliverables and procurement, delivering compliant solutions within challenging heavy industry settings.

You will collaborate across engineering teams, review vendor docs, and apply robust HVAC design practices while supporting cost-effective, safe, and efficient project

Qualifications

• 3-D solid modelling with Revit and 2-D CAD (AutoCAD) experience.
• Able to perform heating, ventilation and air conditioning calculations and CFD/fluid flow related assessments.
• OpenBuildings Designer (formerly Hevacomp) or similar HVAC software knowledge.
• Clear focus on collaboration and building relationships with other engineers and teams.
• Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office and familiarity with codes/regulatory material.
• Experience in heavy industries (petrochemical, power, nuclear).
• Knowledge of PPMOF (Pre-Assembly, Pre-Fabrication Modularisation and Offsite) construction.

Responsibilities

• Create mechanical ventilation design deliverables for low and high integrity ductwork systems.
• Input to process, heat exchanger, treatment plant and prime mover specifications and design.
• Review vendor documentation for mechanical compliance with project specs.
• Assess design risks and prepare design risk assessments.
• Communicate residual design risks to stakeholders.
• Provide strong technical support and develop robust solutions.
• Develop and maintain relationships with technical consultants and suppliers.
• Maintain current technical expertise to keep project design at industry forefront.
