Job summary

Southend University Hospital NHS Trust invites applications for a Band 5 Pharmacy Technician at the Basildon site. The post involves active participation in dispensing, medicine management and optimisation, with opportunities to contribute to a wide range of pharmacy services.

The ideal candidate will be registered with the GPhC, dedicated, detail‑oriented and capable of working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and under own initiative.

Qualifications

• Band 5 Pharmacy Technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
• Attention to detail and organisational skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Communicate drug or medicine related information to patients, relatives and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Assess electronic/paper drug charts
• Communicate with ward staff to ensure timely supply of medicines.
• Transcribe clinically screened items to order.
• Participate in discharge planning to ensure timely discharge and seamless care post discharge.
• Provide advice to patients in written or verbal format to encourage compliance.
• Assess suitability of patients’ own medicines for continued use during their hospital stay.
• Order medicines to wards under their responsibility, adhering to formulary.
• Ensure ward handover to covering Technician in absence.
• Dispensary services: review prescriptions, dispense and safely supply drugs.
• Perform final accuracy check on dispensed products following ACT.
• Maintain good stock control within the dispensary.
• Receive, issue and check controlled drugs.
