Job summary

NHS Basildon University Hospital is seeking a motivated Band 5 Pharmacy Technician to join the Pharmacy Department at the Basildon site. The role involves dispensary services, medicine management and optimisation, and contributing to a wide range of pharmacy services within a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• GPHC registration is required.
• BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical science is required.
• Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems is essential.
• Hospital pharmacy experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Communicate drug or medicine related information to patients, relatives and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Assess electronic/paper drug charts.
• Communicate with ward staff to ensure timely supply of medicines.
• Transcribe clinically screened items to order.
• Participate in discharge planning to ensure timely discharge and seamless care post discharge.
• Provide advice to patients in written or verbal format to encourage compliance.
• Assess suitability of patients' own medicines for continued use during their hospital stay.
• Order medicines to wards under responsibility, adhering to formulary.
• Ensure ward handover to covering technician in absence.
• Dispense and supply drugs, ensuring data is entered in the stock control system.
• Perform final accuracy check on dispensed products following ACT, maintain stock control, receive and check controlled drugs.
