Job summary

Basildon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 5 Pharmacy Technician for the Basildon site to join the Pharmacy Department. The post requires GPHC registration and a willingness to work in Dispensary, Medicine Management and Optimisation services.

The successful candidate will work in a team, handle drug charts, assist with discharge planning and ensure safe dispensing and stock control. This is a fixed-term, part-time role for 10 months with pro-rata salary.

Qualifications

• GPHC registration required.
• BTEC / NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical science.
• Accredited checking technician qualification desirable.

Responsibilities

• Communicate drug or medicine related information to patients, relatives and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Assess electronic/paper drug charts.
• Communicate with ward staff to ensure timely supply of medicines.
• Transcribe clinically screened items to order.
• Participate in discharge planning with patients, ward staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely discharge and seamless care post discharge.
• Provide advice to patients in written or verbal format to encourage compliance.
• Assess the suitability of patients' own medicines for continued use during their hospital stay.
• Order medicines to the wards under their responsibility, adhering to formulary.
• Ensure ward handover to covering Technician in absence.
• Dispensary services: review prescriptions, dispense and safely supply drugs, perform final accuracy checks, maintain stock control, receive/check controlled drugs.
