Job summary

Thames Water is recruiting a Mechanical & Electrical Technician for the Fobney WTW site in Reading. You will inspect, maintain, fault-diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical plant safely and efficiently, ensuring site operations for customers.

Base location: Reading; 38-hour week with overtime opportunities. You should have an electrical apprenticeship and suitable NVQs or ONC/HNC in engineering, with upskilling in mechanical NVQ2/3 as crucial.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems in a multi-skilled capacity.
• Up-skilled with a mechanical qualification to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair plant equipment.
• For those with mechanical or electrical experience only, potential for dual-skilled development.
• Knowledge of health and safety is crucial.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Investigate plant failures and carry out repairs quickly to avoid process interruptions.
• Provide technical advice and training support for technical trainees as required.
• Work on pumps, motors, control gear, VSDs, valves, PLCs and dosing equipment.
• Participate in standby rota after relevant training.
