Job Description

This role is categorized as hybrid, requiring the successful candidate to report to Concord, NC three times per week at minimum.

The Role: To strengthen our motorsports program, we are seeking a Team Simulation Support Engineer to enhance the utilization of our simulation toolchain across GM Motorsports-supported series. The primary goal is to provide engineering support that improves on-track performance. You will collaborate with race team members and GM support engineers to conduct analysis studies using offline and driver-in-loop (DiL) simulations, assist in developing and educating offline simulation tools, facilitate feedback to GM simulation development teams, refine vehicle modeling inputs, and establish baseline simulation settings for on-track events. All projects should be completed to high standards, on time, and within budget. Proficiency in simulation, proactive engagement, and passion for accurate models are essential.

Responsibilities:
  1. Serve as a key performance support engineer for GM Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup series.
  2. Assist teams in fitting collected data for input into simulation models.
  3. Collaborate with the broader simulation support team to improve and explore methods to enhance the simulation toolchain and race team performance.
  4. Provide race teams with expert knowledge on simulation functionalities and modeling practices.
  5. Represent racing team needs in the simulation toolchain development process.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of engineering industry experience.
  • 4+ years of professional motorsport experience within a race team setting.
  • Proficiency with data analysis software such as Pi Toolbox, MoTeC i2, and McLaren ATLAS.
  • Knowledge of high-performance vehicle, tire, and aerodynamic modeling techniques.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment with a strong work ethic and integrity.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to travel 10% of the time annually.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Experience with driver-in-loop (DiL) simulators.
  • Proficiency in Dymola/Modelica.
  • Familiarity with C# and Git.
