Job summary

AXA Group in Bolton is seeking a Motor Claims Handler to join our Commercial Claims team. You will manage a portfolio of motor claims, investigate outcomes, communicate decisions, and work to settle claims cost-effectively in a busy, customer‑facing environment.

The role is full-time with a hybrid work model; 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday, with 40% of time at home and increasing to 60% from December 2026. Training is provided onsite at Bolton, followed by a flexible second day.

Key responsibilities:

• Manage a portfolio of motor claims.
• Investigate claims to make appropriate policy and legal liability decisions.
• Communicate decisions to relevant parties, ensuring transparency and understanding.
• Suggest and implement the best claims management methods, such as MOJ, Credit Hire, and current case law, to achieve a cost-effective settlement.
• Build and maintain strong broker relationships.
• Identify potential fraud and refer suspicious claims for investigation.
• Update systems accurately with information.
• Provide excellent customer service, treating customers fairly.

Work arrangements:

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) from December 2026. Away from home means attending the office, visiting clients or attending industry events.

Working hours & shift pattern:

You’ll work full time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday (9am-5pm). There are no evenings or weekend work.

Induction & training:

Induction Date: Mid-October

You’ll receive a comprehensive onsite induction from our specialist trainers to set you up for success in your new role. When you start, you’ll join an academy that will give you 12 weeks’ dedicated training to ensure you are fully supported which will be delivered onsite at our Bolton office. Once you demonstrate competency in your role, you’ll then transition to a hybrid way of working. Monday will be your team day in the office, with your second day being flexible.

Your skills & experience:

• Claims handling experience is essential (preferably within motor or property).
• Sound negotiation skills and use of tactics in managing claims.
• Confident communicating over the phone whilst using computers simultaneously.
• A positive, can-do attitude with a strong customer focus.
• Excellent listening skills.

As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.

This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.
