Job summary

The Nottingham Building Society is seeking a Head of Mortgage Underwriting at Head Office in Nottingham. This hybrid role combines strategic leadership with hands-on oversight of mortgage origination, underwriting and portfolio management, across residential, buy-to-let and specialist lending.

You will drive underwriting standards, transform processes, and manage a high-performing team while maintaining strong governance and customer outcomes in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive mortgage origination experience.
• Strong understanding of responsible lending and underwriting standards.
• Regulatory knowledge incl. MCOB and FCA requirements.
• Proven leadership of high-performing teams.
• Analytical with ability to interpret MI and KPIs.

Responsibilities

• Shape and deliver the Mortgage Origination and Underwriting strategy.
• Lead, motivate and develop teams with a customer and intermediary focus.
• Maintain prudent underwriting standards and regulatory compliance.
• Drive efficiency and service excellence across mortgage journeys.
• Use data and feedback to identify risks and improve outcomes.
• Lead change initiatives and transformation programmes.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and robust risk management.
• Build relationships with brokers, solicitors, and partners.
• Oversee third-party suppliers and maintain service standards.
• Champion resilience and business continuity.
