Job summary

The Nottingham Building Society is seeking a Head of Mortgage Underwriting at Head Office in Nottingham. This hybrid role requires leadership of mortgage origination, underwriting strategy and a focus on customer and intermediary outcomes.

You will lead cross-functional teams, ensure robust underwriting standards, and drive continuous improvements while maintaining strong governance and regulatory compliance within a regulated environment. A competitive salary plus car allowance is on offer.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience across mortgage origination, underwriting and portfolio management.
• Strong understanding of responsible lending, mortgage operations and customer servicing.
• Knowledge of MCOB, FCA requirements and financial crime controls.
• Proven leadership of high-performing operational teams.
• Analytical skills to interpret MI, KPIs and performance data.
• Experience in regulatory environments with risk management and incident recovery.
• Track record of delivering change and continuous improvement.
• Outstanding stakeholder management with senior leaders and partners.
• Excellent communication and leadership under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Shape and deliver the Mortgage Origination and Underwriting strategy.
• Lead and develop high-performing teams with a customer/intermediary focus.
• Maintain robust underwriting standards and prudent lending decisions.
• Drive operational efficiency and service excellence across mortgage journeys.
• Use data and performance insights to identify trends and risks.
• Lead change initiatives and transformation programmes.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and strong governance in lending.
• Build relationships with brokers, solicitors, valuation partners and risk teams.
• Oversee third-party suppliers to maintain service standards.
• Champion resilience and business continuity within the function.
