Job summary

The Nottingham Building Society is seeking a Head of Mortgage Underwriting at Head Office in Nottingham with hybrid working (minimum 2 days per week). This senior role leads origination and underwriting strategy, shapes lending standards and drives customer outcomes.

You will manage high-performing teams, oversee regulatory compliance, build partnerships with brokers and partners, and champion continuous improvement across mortgage journeys.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience across mortgage origination, underwriting and portfolio management.
• Strong understanding of responsible lending and mortgage operations.
• Experience leading high-performing operational teams and coaching colleagues.
• Solid knowledge of regulatory frameworks (MCOB, FCA) and financial crime controls.

Responsibilities

• Shape and deliver the Mortgage Origination and Underwriting strategy.
• Lead, motivate and develop high-performing teams with a customer/intermediary focus.
• Maintain robust underwriting standards and prudent, compliant lending decisions.
• Drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement across mortgage journeys and processes.
• Use data and performance insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
• Lead change initiatives and embedding new ways of working.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and strong governance controls.
• Build strong relationships with brokers, solicitors, valuation partners, Risk and Compliance teams.
• Oversee third-party suppliers and outsourced services to maintain high service standards.
• Champion operational resilience and business continuity.
