Job summary

The Nottingham Building Society is seeking a Head of Mortgage Underwriting at Head Office, Nottingham. This role leads origination, underwriting strategy and customer outcomes, with hybrid working and a 35-hour week.

You will drive a high-performing team, maintain robust underwriting standards and ensure compliant operations. We expect deep mortgage experience across residential, buy-to-let and specialist lending, plus strong regulatory knowledge and excellent stakeholder management to influence

Qualifications

• Extensive experience across mortgage origination, underwriting and portfolio management.
• Strong regulatory knowledge including MCOB and FCA requirements.
• Demonstrated leadership of high-performing teams.
• Ability to interpret MI, KPIs and performance data.
• Experience with change and transformation programmes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Shape and deliver the Mortgage Origination and Underwriting strategy.
• Lead, motivate and develop teams with a customer/intermediary focus.
• Maintain robust underwriting standards and oversight.
• Drive efficiency across mortgage journeys and processes.
• Use data and feedback to identify trends and improve outcomes.
• Lead change initiatives and governance controls.
• Maintain regulatory compliance and risk management.
• Build relationships with brokers, solicitors and partners.
• Oversee third-party suppliers and outsourced services.
• Champion resilience and business continuity.
