Job summary

The Nottingham Building Society is seeking a Head of Mortgage Underwriting to lead the mortgage origination and underwriting strategy at our Head Office in Nottingham. This hybrid role requires guiding high-performing teams, ensuring prudent lending, and delivering customer-focused outcomes across residential, buy-to-let, commercial, self-build and specialist lending.

• Extensive experience across mortgage origination, underwriting and portfolio management.
• Strong understanding of responsible lending and mortgage operations.
• Experience leading high-performing operational teams and coaching colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Shape and deliver the Mortgage Origination and Underwriting strategy.
• Lead, motivate and develop high-performing teams.
• Maintain robust underwriting standards and oversight.
• Drive operational efficiency, service excellence and continuous improvement.
• Use data, feedback and performance insights to identify trends, manage risks and improve outcomes.
• Lead change initiatives and transformation programmes.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, risk management and governance controls.
• Build relationships with brokers, solicitors, valuation partners, Credit Risk and Compliance teams.
• Oversee third-party suppliers and outsourced services.
• Champion operational resilience and business continuity.
• Oversee governance and stakeholder engagement across the function.
