Job summary

Chartwells Independent in Bournemouth is seeking a passionate Sous Chef to join our team. You’ll support the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen, prepare fresh, high-quality food and help lead the kitchen during service.

This Monday–Friday role offers a strong work-life balance, with evenings and weekends largely free, opportunities to contribute ideas, manage stock, and uphold food safety standards across the operation.

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in a kitchen environment
• Strong cooking skills and high attention to detail
• Solid knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
• Ability to work well as part of a team and lead where needed
• Passion for delivering great customer experiences

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef with day-to-day kitchen operations
• Prepare and cook fresh, high-quality food to a high standard
• Help lead and motivate the kitchen team during service
• Ensure food is presented to a high standard and consistent
• Support with menu development and new ideas
• Manage stock, ordering and minimising food waste
• Maintain excellent food hygiene, health & safety and cleanliness standards
• Ensure all food is prepared and stored in line with company and legislative requirements
• Support the Head Chef with smooth and efficient kitchen running
