The Modern Workplace Associate is the frontline of the firm’s technology function. The role is responsible for ensuring colleagues can work effectively from day one and every day thereafter. This includes preparing laptops for new starters, resolving hardware and software issues quickly, and providing calm, clear support when users encounter challenges with tools such as Microsoft 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop.

This role removes high-volume, hands‑on end‑user computing (EUC) activity from senior engineers, allowing them to focus on platform stability, security, and strategic improvement.

Key Responsibilities

End-User Equipment & Lifecycle

  • Prepare laptops for new starters, including build, configuration, and handover.

  • Wipe, reset, and process devices from leavers in line with firm procedures.

  • Replace and troubleshoot monitors, docking stations, keyboards, headsets, and other peripherals.

  • Maintain accurate asset records and ensure equipment is correctly tracked.

  • Support hardware refresh and secure disposal activities.

Modern Workplace Support

  • Provide first- and second-line support for Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.

  • Support colleagues using Azure Virtual Desktop, including login issues, performance concerns, and device compatibility.

  • Assist users in adopting hybrid working across office and home environments.

  • Provide hands‑on support during onboarding, office moves, and equipment changes.

Office Presence & User Experience

  • Maintain a regular on‑site presence across firm offices to provide visible and approachable IT support.

  • Resolve issues face‑to‑face where appropriate, building trust and strong working relationships.

  • Act as the first point of contact for walk‑up IT issues during office days.

  • Escalate recurring issues to senior engineers to support long‑term fixes.

Process & Continuous Improvement

  • Follow standard operating procedures for device builds, leavers, and replacements.

  • Ensure all work is logged through the service desk so demand and trends are visible.

  • Identify repeat issues and highlight them to the wider technology team.

  • Contribute to improving internal documentation and user guidance.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Previous experience in a user-facing IT support or desktop support role.

  • Strong working knowledge of Windows laptops and common peripherals.

  • Basic understanding of Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive.

  • Confidence supporting non‑technical users in a professional environment.

  • Willingness to work on‑site and provide visible support to the business.

Desirable

  • Exposure to Azure Virtual Desktop or other virtual desktop solutions.

  • Experience using Intune or similar device management tools.

  • Understanding of hybrid working environments.

  • Interest in progressing into EUC, Modern Workplace, or Cloud‑based roles.

Knowledge

  • You can explain tech in plain English so that colleagues feel supported, not overwhelmed.

  • You notice when something could be done better and suggest improvements.

  • You have a positive attitude with automation.
