Job summary

RAC is seeking a Mobile Mechanic for its SMR division, covering Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth, Welwyn Garden City, and Hertford. You’ll work on pre-booked appointments with a fully equipped RAC van, digital scheduling, and a focus on planned servicing and diagnostics in members’ driveways or workplaces.

The role emphasizes independence, a structured workflow, and progression in a national organisation known for career growth and support. A full UK driving licence with clean points is required.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
• 5+ years' experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

Responsibilities

• Routine servicing
• Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
• In depth repairs you'd normally complete in a workshop
• Member advice and recommendations based on your inspection
• Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards

Education
