Mental Health Support Worker - £25,325 - £27,378 per annum (Salaries vary depending on experience)

Hours – 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday, inclusive of bank holidays, occasional evenings & weekends.

Service – Transitional Support/Oxford.

What You'll Be Doing

The Transitional Support team is looking for an enthusiastic, caring, and motivated individual to join their team. The team focuses on providing care five days a week for clients in both staffed projects and houses out in the community, creating a comfortable, safe, and pleasant environment while helping residents work towards more independent living in the future. The position may require occasional evening and weekend work as per the shift rota.

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will provide person-centred support to residents with serious mental illness, including adults with a primary diagnosis of psychotic illness, often with coexisting conditions such as physical health issues, neurodiversity, substance use, and cognitive impairments.

Some of the core duties include
  • Providing emotional support, encouragement, and practical assistance with daily activities, including medication management, engaging in interests, education, community access, employment, and teaching life skills such as shopping, budgeting, using public transport, and cooking.
  • Fostering a supportive environment that promotes independence.
  • Supporting and monitoring physical and mental health, liaising with health services as needed.
  • Supporting clients to attend appointments.
  • Completing daily paperwork.
  • Supporting the Service Manager to achieve monthly service goals.
  • Ensuring health and safety measures are followed.
  • Using a trauma-informed approach based on the 6 principles: Safety, Trust, Choice, Collaboration, Empowerment, and Cultural Consideration.
  • Promoting engagement with family, friends, and carers, ensuring they are involved and informed.

Essential Criteria
  • GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • Commitment to personal development, including completing the Care Certificate
  • IT literacy, experience with MS Office
  • Good communication skills (written, verbal, listening)
  • Ability to provide non-judgemental, emotional, and practical support
  • Interest in mental health and well-being
  • High levels of personal and professional integrity aligned with Response's values
  • Ability to follow health and safety procedures
