Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

There are 6 permanent, fulltime positions of 37 hours per week available, with a rotational shift pattern.

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

The Directorate of Forensic Mental Health and Learning Disabilities has an exciting opportunity available for a suitably qualified RNMH/RNLD to join our nursing team.

We provide inpatient care in both a Medium and Low Secure setting as well as a Community service for patients. This post is for our Inpatient Service. The service provides a safe, secure and therapeutic environment for patients with a focus on risk assessment and reduction, rehabilitation and discharge planning for return to the community from our inpatient services.

In line with the philosophy of the Forensic Directorate, the post holder will be responsible for the provision of specialist nursing care and treatment for individuals who have a mental disorder or learning disability and who have demonstrated serious offending behaviour or present significant risk to themselves and/or others.

The post holder, as part of the multi-disciplinary team, will provide care through a progressive patient-focused approach within a safe and secure environment which is underpinned by formal risk assessment and risk management that will maximise the individuals’ rehabilitation potential.

The Forensic Directorate provides Medium Secure, Low Secure and Community care for mentally disordered offenders. The service provides a safe, secure and therapeutic environment for the patient with a focus on rehabilitation and discharge planning, as an integral part of treatment, to enable a return to a community setting.

The post holder will also ensure that they maintain a therapeutic relationship with the patient and carers to ensure that care needs are identified and met within a participative framework that recognises the principles of equality, dignity, respect and also taking into account the individual spiritual needs of the patient.

However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

Candidates should provide original and authentic responses to all questions within the application form. The use of artificial intelligence (AI), automated tools, or other third-party assistance to generate, draft, or significantly modify responses is strongly discouraged.
