Job summary

Thames Water Utilities Limited is seeking a Mechanical Technician to maintain and repair mechanical plant and electrical equipment at the Ashford Common water production site. You will inspect, fault-diagnose, test and install equipment with minimal supervision to keep sites operational for customers.

The role offers a permanent, full-time pattern of 38 hours per week, with a 7:30 am – 3:36 pm schedule and potential overtime/standby earnings after training.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprentice with mechanical experience or NVQ/C&G Level 3 in mechanical engineering.
• Strong problem-solving skills with ability to identify issues and implement solutions.
• Excellent communicator to internal/external staff and contractors.
• Resilient and adaptable to changing environments.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and take initiative.

Responsibilities

• Work on pumps and water transfer within treatment works and network.
• Inspect, maintain, fault-diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant and electrical equipment.
• Carry out scheduled planned maintenance to improve plant resilience.
• Provide technical advice and training to the wider team as needed.
• Participate in a 24/7 standby rota after training period.
