Job summary

Thames Water is seeking a Mechanical Engineer at Ashford Common (TW15 1RU) to inspect, maintain and repair mechanical plant and related electrical equipment across our sites. The role offers a 38-hour week (Mon-Fri 7:30-3:36) with standby rota and overtime potential.

You should be a time-served apprentice with NVQ or C&G Level 3 in mechanical engineering. Must be a problem solver with good communication and a full UK driving licence. Health and safety awareness is essential.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprentice with NVQ or C&G Level 3 in mechanical engineering.
• Problem solver who can identify issues and implement solutions.
• Excellent communicator with internal and external staff and contractors.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and on own initiative.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues in the industry.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, fault-diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment.
• Work on pumps and water transfer within water treatment works and transmission networks; assist with chemical dosing pumps.
• Investigate mechanical plant failures and carry out repairs quickly to minimise disruptions for customers.
• Provide technical advice to the wider team and support trainees as required.
• Participation in a 24/7 out-of-hours standby rota after training and assessment.
