A leading aerospace and defense organization in Glasgow is looking for a Mechanical Engineer specializing in Power and Propulsion Systems. This hybrid role offers an initial 12-month contract, working on innovative projects while providing essential support for Naval Ship functions. Ideal candidates will have 2-3 years of related experience and a strong understanding of the product lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the defense/maritime industry or a closely related field is preferred.
  • Ability to work with limited autonomy and perform routine analysis in engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Mechanical Engineering support to the Power & Propulsion Systems Team.
  • Contribute to designs for Naval Ships' propulsion systems.
  • Assess technical compliance and review design documentation.

Skills

Due to a drive for greater success, this advanced manufacturing business is currently searching for Mechanical Engineer Power and Propulsion Systems to add to their talented, hardworking team in Glasgow (onsite 1-2 days per week) on an initial 12 months contract. Striving for innovation and creativity you can ensure no two days will be the same.

£45..64 per hour inside IR35 / Umbrella per hour

Responsibilities
  • To provide Mechanical Engineering support to the Power & Propulsion Systems Team engaged in the functional design of the latest Naval Ships.
  • Contribute to mechanical elements of the design of the River Class Destroyer Power and Propulsion systems.
  • Including:
  • - Propulsion Motors
  • - Diesel Generators
  • - Gas Turbine
  • - Propulsion Gearbox
  • - Shaftline
  • - Steering gear and Stabilisers

Provide suppport to the team in order to assess technical compliance, integration and review of design documentation for the ship's propulsion motors procurement pack.

Implement change to P&P systems away from baseline ship design, assessing impacts on equipment, systems and spatial design.

Support P&P compartment owners in the Zonal Maturity programme.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Minimal experience in engineering or a defence related industry.
  • 2-3 years in experience in a similar role
  • Has worked in typically one phase of the product lifecycle in the defence/maritime industry or a closely related field.
  • Has an understanding of the product lifecycle.
  • Has worked with limited autonomy and has performed routine analysis in one engineering sub-discipline.
