Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Halesowen or London

Salary: Competitive / negotiable dependent on experience (Likely £40k-£50k)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and innovative Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading luxury lighting manufacturer working with world-renowned interior designers on prestigious projects across the globe. With design, engineering, and operational teams split across London and Halesowen, this role offers the chance to work within a progressive, design-led business with ambitious growth plans. You will get the chance to work at either site depending on what suits you best.

The successful candidate will take creative concepts and develop them into fully engineered, manufacturable lighting products—collaborating closely with creative design, supply chain, production, and external suppliers. This is a key position requiring technical expertise, strong project management ability, and an excellent understanding of materials and production processes.

Job Overview
  • Engineering development of lighting products from initial concept through to full production, ensuring technical feasibility and manufacturability.
  • Apply strong knowledge of materials including metals, glass, and alabaster, as well as manufacturing processes such as bending, folding, casting, and finishing to create designs aligned with brand aesthetics.
  • Collaborate with existing and new manufacturers alongside the internal supply chain team to ensure designs are feasible, cost‑effective, and meet high‑quality standards.
  • Support supplier engagement, including occasional visits within the UK and abroad.
  • Work cross‑functionally with creative design, engineering, supply chain, assembly, and external partners to deliver high‑quality engineered solutions.
  • Ensure timely delivery of engineering outputs through effective project management and technical ownership.
  • Carry out any additional duties as required in line with the needs of the business.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in product development, ideally with exposure to lighting or related sectors.
  • Degree in Mechanical or Product Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (2D/3D modelling), AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and production techniques relevant to high‑end lighting.
  • Passion for innovation with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering manufacturable, high‑quality designs.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced commercial environment and take ownership of the engineering process.
  • Valid driving licence and full right to work in the UK.
Salary & Benefits
  • Monday to Thursday: 08:30‑17:30
  • Friday: 08:30‑15:30

  • Plus 1 additional day for every two years of service (up to 5 extra days)
