Job summary

A manufacturing firm in Swansea is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a permanent position. The successful candidate will produce detailed 3D and 2D designs using CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD. Ideal candidates will hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering and possess experience in a similar manufacturing role, including sheet metal work. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential for collaboration within a small engineering team, ensuring effective project completion.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
  • Previous experience in a mechanical design role within manufacturing.
  • Experience with Sheet Metal/Metalwork is required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other design engineers on projects.
  • Create 3D designs using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Produce 2D designs with AutoCAD.
  • Liaise with manufacturing teams for assembly.
  • Document designs and prepare project reports.

About Our Client

My client is a manufacturer of specialist products for a variety of sectors, and they are looking to take on a Mechanical Design Engineer on a permanent basis in the Swansea area.

Key Qualifications & Attributes
  • Degree, HNC, HND, BTEC or NVQ qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Previous experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Sheet Metal/Metalwork is necessary for this role
  • Proficient using 3D CAD software such as Creo, Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.
  • Good theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge of core principles and tight tolerances
  • Ability to work well alone as well as part of a small multi‑disciplinary team
  • Ability to carry out mechanical calculations
  • Previous experience of working with process machinery or steel/metal materials would be desirable
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Proficient using MS Office
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management skills
Role Responsibilities
  • Working within the current engineering team with other Design Engineers
  • Producing 3D designs using Autodesk Inventor and 2D designs with AutoCAD
  • Liaising with manufacturing providers
  • Being involved in final assembly of products
  • Creating the required documentation for design as well as project reports/plans
  • Updating 3D models and drawings
  • Inputting parts into the MRP system creating BOMs
  • Checking drawings for sign‑off
  • Working in a small multi‑disciplinary team on varied projects
