Job summary

Central YMCA is seeking a Maths Tutor to deliver engaging Entry Level to Level 2 Functional Skills and GCSE maths across partner sites in Stockport. You will support learners from initial assessment through to completion, embedding work readiness and behaviour, and coordinating assessments and examinations.

You will provide pastoral support, maintain learner records, and collaborate with apprenticeship tutors and external organisations to maximise learner outcomes.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and great rapport-building ability.
• Be creative and brave, finding ways to engage learners and improve maths confidence.
• Nurture and empower learners by supporting them to overcome barriers.
• Be highly organised with planning and time-management skills (good IT skills).
• PGCE/Certificate in Education, or L5 Diploma in Education and Training.
• Qualified to a minimum of Level 3 in maths and Level 2 in English.
• Experience teaching maths up to Level 2 and/or GCSE.
• Effective skills in managing conflict and maintaining high classroom standards.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and teach Entry Level to Level 2 Functional Skills and/or GCSE English & maths.
• Embed work readiness, behaviour, and social skills into lessons.
• Monitor learner progress and set individual learning targets.
• Organise and support assessments, coursework, and examinations.
• Provide pastoral and tutorial support to learners.
• Maintain accurate learner records using ICT and tracking systems.
• Build effective links with apprenticeship tutors and external organisations.
