Job summary

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is seeking a dedicated Market Facilities Assistant to help deliver a high-quality markets service at Hanley Indoor Market. The role involves opening/closing markets, maintaining a clean, safe environment, and supporting daily operations to ensure a welcoming space for traders and visitors.

The ideal candidate will have strong customer service and teamwork skills, experience in security and premises maintenance, and the ability to adapt to a busy, hands-on environment.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and professional approach when dealing with traders, visitors and colleagues.
• Ability to handle challenging situations calmly and professionally, using sound judgement.
• Experience in security and maintaining a safe and secure environment.
• Experience in cleaning and maintaining premises with COSHH awareness.
• Strong work ethic, reliable and flexible to meet service needs.
• Good teamwork and willingness to support colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and secure market including opening and closing buildings.
• Maintain cleaning levels and remove waste.
• Manage stock levels.
• Carry out general maintenance.
• Support Fire Evacuations.
• Support the Market Officer with all aspects of the market operations.
