Job description

As part of our growing Engineering team, we are seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support the delivery of safe, efficient and effective maintenance activities across our client site in Warton, Lancashire.

This role provides vital support to both our in house engineers and subcontractors, assisting with day to day operational tasks, routine inspections, escorting, and ensuring works are carried out safely and in line with site procedures. The position is hands on and physically active, involving manual handling, working at height, and occasionally working within confined spaces.

You’ll be expected to keep supervisors and the subcontractor coordinator updated on progress, support safe working practices, record activities via IT systems, and contribute to a high standard of customer service across the estate. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and confidence using technology for task updates are essential.

Main Duties
  • Escort subcontractors around site, ensuring safe access and adherence to security requirements.
  • Support subcontractor operations by carrying out safety inspections on ongoing works and reporting any concerns or deviations promptly.
  • Provide key updates to supervisors and the subcontractor coordinator regarding progress, risks, delays and completed activities.
  • Assist other trades (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fabric) with safe access and routine tasks when required.
  • Assist with stock management, ensuring consumables are replenished and stored correctly.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, following site procedures, permits and health & safety requirements at all times.
  • Flexibility to work out of hours and at weekends as required.
Qualifications
  • Experience in building maintenance, site support, or a similar practical role.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety requirements within a maintenance or building environment.
  • A proactive approach to supporting maintenance operations and ensuring safe working practices.
  • Experience using PDA or IT‑based systems for reporting and task completion.
  • Must have full UK driving licence.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to excellent customer service, ensuring building users and stakeholders receive timely, accurate updates.
