Job summary
SMT GB is seeking a hands-on Machine Preparation Centre Engineer for our Immingham site. You will prepare, inspect, and commission Volvo Construction Equipment machines to the highest safety and quality standards, ensuring each unit is fully configured for delivery and ready for customer acceptance.
You will work as part of the Preparation Centre team, supporting continuous improvement, mentoring trainees, and contributing to SMT GB’s engineering excellence while maintaining strict compliance
Qualifications
- Engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Mechanics, or related discipline.
- Experience preparing, servicing or repairing heavy plant equipment.
- Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills across hydraulic and electrical systems.
Responsibilities
- Carry out pre-delivery inspections (PDI), machine preparation, commissioning, and attach customer-specified accessories.
- Complete inspections, software updates, documentation and PDA inputs.
- Identify and report defects or additional work requirements to ensure timely resolution.
- Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in line with Health & Safety and quality procedures.
- Support colleagues, mentor trainees and participate in training courses.
