Location: Immingham

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

About The Role

We’re looking for a Machine Preparation Centre (MPC) Engineer to join our team in Immingham. In this hands‑on role, you’ll be responsible for preparing, inspecting, and commissioning new Volvo Construction Equipment machines to the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. Working as part of the Machine Preparation Centre team, you’ll ensure every machine is fully prepared, configured, and ready for delivery, while supporting continuous improvement and maintaining SMT GB’s commitment to engineering excellence.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Carrying out pre-delivery inspections (PDI), machine preparation, commissioning activities, and fitting customer-specified attachments and accessories.
  • Completing all inspections, software updates, documentation, and PDA inputs accurately, ensuring machines meet OEM and customer requirements before release.
  • Identifying and reporting defects, additional work requirements, or technical concerns to ensure issues are resolved efficiently.
  • Maintaining company tools, equipment, and work areas to high standards while complying with all Health & Safety, COSHH, quality, and environmental procedures.
  • Supporting colleagues, mentoring trainees where required, attending technical training courses, and contributing to the overall success of the Preparation Centre.
What You’ll Need

We’re looking for a motivated and detail-focused engineer with experience in the repair, maintenance, or preparation of heavy construction plant, agricultural machinery, HGVs, or similar equipment. You’ll have a strong understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems, a commitment to quality workmanship, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.

  • A recognised engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Mechanics, or a related discipline (e.g. NVQ Level 2, City & Guilds or equivalent).
  • Experience preparing, servicing, or repairing heavy plant equipment, with good diagnostic and problem-solving skills across hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and teamwork skills, with a proactive approach and excellent attention to detail.
  • Basic IT skills, including the ability to use email, digital systems, and technical documentation, alongside a continuous improvement mindset.
  • A full UK driving licence is desirable, while welding experience would be advantageous. Flexibility to attend training courses, work occasional overtime, and stay away from home when required is also essential.
