Job summary

An NHS Health Board in Wales seeks a Locum Consultant General Paediatrician for 8 sessions per week at the Children's Hospital for Wales, with a competitive salary of £97,011 per annum. Locum Consultant General Paediatrician

Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in General Paediatrics, working 8 sessions per week, based at the Children's Hospital for Wales in Cardiff, available until approximately December 2026 whilst covering maternity leave. While specialist interests are welcomed and can be accommodated within the role, they are not essential for appointment.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary for this post is £97,011 per annum for an 8-session commitment.

Applicants should preferably either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within three months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join a team of 10 Consultant General Paediatricians (8.3 WTE), with 6.9 Consultants contributing to the acute rota, delivering the full scope of general paediatric care required for the Children's Hospital for Wales. This hospital is an integral part of the University Hospital of Wales, providing both secondary and tertiary paediatric services across South Wales.
