Job summary

Chorlton High School is seeking a Teaching Assistant Level 2 – Literacy Intervention to join our supportive learning community. This part-time role (30 hours per week, term time plus one week) focuses on delivering targeted literacy support to help pupils improve reading and writing and access the wider curriculum.

You will work closely with teachers, SEND staff, and parents, monitor pupil progress, and contribute to safeguarding and inclusive practice across the school.

Qualifications

• A good level of English and maths proficiency.
• Experience working with children of a relevant age.
• Ability to relate to children and adults.
• An understanding of the National Curriculum and other basic learning programs/strategic processes and barriers to learning would be advantageous.
• Commitment to maintaining and developing professional knowledge and skills; tact and diplomacy.

Responsibilities

• Deliver planned literacy intervention programmes to individuals or small groups of pupils.
• Support pupils who are working below age-related expectations in reading and writing.
• Assist teachers in assessing pupils' literacy progress and identifying areas for development.
• Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress.
• Encourage pupil engagement, confidence, and independence in learning.
• Prepare learning resources and intervention materials.
• Work closely with teachers, SEND staff, and parents to support pupils' achievement.
• Promote safeguarding, equality, and inclusion at all times.
