Job summary

Castle School Education Trust is seeking a committed Learning Mentor to join our busy school team at West Huntspill Primary. You will provide pastoral support under the Headteacher, liaise with external agencies, and contribute to safeguarding as part of our dedicated team.

You will deliver targeted support for students, lead small group and 1:1 interventions, and work closely with teachers to promote wellbeing, progress, and positive behaviours across the school.

Qualifications

• A good general standard of education (GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths and English).
• NVQ/VRQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification or equivalent.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

Contract type: Permanent

Salary: PATH 6 £29,542 FTE. £22,195 prorated.

Working hours: 32.5 per week

Working weeks: Term time only + 5 INSET days

Location: West Huntspill Primary

About the role

We are seeking a committed Learning Mentor to join our busy and supportive school team. Working under the direction of the Headteacher, you will play a vital role in providing key pastoral support to our pupils, liaise with external agencies and be a part of our dedicated safeguarding team.

Key responsibilities include:

• Support children with their personal development and progress through school.
• Promoting well-being, self-esteem, and positive learning behaviours.
• Work with the class teacher and SLT to identify and deliver targeted support for students.
• Leading small group and 1:1 interventions in literacy, numeracy, and behaviour.
• Building strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and third party agencies.

About you

You’re someone who brings warmth, initiative and a deep commitment to inclusive education. You understand that every student is unique, and you’re ready to support them in reaching their full potential—academically, socially, and emotionally.

• A good general standard of education (GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths and English).
• NVQ/VRQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification or equivalent.
• Knowledge of provision mapping processes and tools (desirable).
• Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with parents, agencies, and pupils.
• Compassion, patience, and confidence in supporting primary-aged children individually and in groups.
• Reliability, motivation, and resilience under pressure.
• Proficiency in ICT, including Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
