Job summary

Teaching Personnel is looking for a compassionate Learning Support Mentor to join a primary school in Burnley. In this rewarding full-time position, you will provide essential support to pupils facing barriers to learning, helping them develop confidence and skills.

Job description

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic Learning Support Mentor to join our primary school team. This rewarding role involves providing targeted support to pupils who may face barriers to learning, helping them develop confidence, resilience, and the skills needed to thrive both academically and socially.

Working closely with teachers, SEND staff, parents, and external agencies, you will play a key role in ensuring every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

Learning Support Mentor – Primary School

Location: Burnley

Salary: £14.25 - £15 per hour

Contract: Full-time

Hours: 8.30am – 3.30pm

Start Date: 1st September 2026

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with additional learning, emotional, behavioural, or social needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and participation in learning.
  • Support classroom learning and reinforce teaching activities under the direction of class teachers.
  • Assist in implementing personalised learning and behaviour support plans.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff and parents where appropriate.
  • Help pupils develop confidence, independence, self-esteem, and positive social skills.
  • Support children during breaktimes, lunchtimes, and educational visits when required.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external professionals to ensure effective support for pupils.
  • Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusion at all times.
About You
  • Has experience working with children in a school, educational, youth work, or mentoring environment.
  • Is passionate about supporting young people to overcome challenges and succeed.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach.
  • Can build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • Is able to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • Works well independently and as part of a team.
  • Has a good understanding of SEND, SEMH, and inclusion practices (desirable).
Essential Requirements
  • Experience supporting children or young people.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
