Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced Technical Principal to lead and grow the Tunnel Ventilation team. You will report to the Head of Tunnel Systems and drive delivery for rail, metro, road tunnel and underground infrastructure projects in the UK and internationally.

You will set technical direction, review strategies and provide clear guidance on fire and life safety, smoke control, and system interfaces.

Qualifications

• Experience leading tunnel ventilation projects across rail, metro, road tunnel and underground infrastructure.
• Ability to develop ventilation strategies and operating philosophies for normal and emergency conditions.
• Proven track record in technical direction, delivery, reviews and governance.

Responsibilities

• Lead tunnel ventilation delivery on large complex projects, setting technical direction and ensuring safe, practical, sustainable and high-quality outcomes.
• Develop and review ventilation strategies, system concepts, operating philosophies, equipment requirements, layouts and interfaces for normal and emergency conditions.
• Lead one-dimensional ventilation, aerodynamic and thermodynamic analyses and coordinate specialist inputs as required.
• Provide specialist guidance on fire and life safety, smoke control, environmental conditions and operational performance.
• Build trusted client relationships and communicate clear, evidence-based recommendations.
• Mentor and develop Early Career Professionals and other team members.
