Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking an industry-leading Technical Director to join our Croydon office and strengthen our UK tunnelling capability. You will provide technical leadership, governance, and strategic direction for complex tunnel projects, guiding design, delivery, and client outcomes on a global scale.

The role requires Chartered Engineer status, extensive tunnelling experience, and a track record of leading multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.
• Chartered Engineer status or equivalent preferred.
• Significant experience in tunnelling/underground infrastructure across major projects.
• Strong expertise in tunnel design (TBM, NATM/SCL) and geotechnical understanding.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and assurance for tunnelling/underground projects.
• Act as Technical Lead/Discipline Lead on major programmes.
• Oversee multidisciplinary integration across geotechnical, structures, MEP, fire/life safety.
