Job summary

GE Vernova Grid Solutions in the UK seeks a Senior Primary Design Team Leader HVDC to drive end-to-end design for HVDC and HV/EHV substations. You will lead a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring safe-by-design practices and delivery from tender through execution on major European projects.

You will mentor engineers, oversee design budgets, and coordinate with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to meet stringent regulatory and project milestones.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical/Power/Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 10+ years' experience in HVDC and/or HV substation design, with team leadership.
• Strong knowledge of European TSO transmission standards and practices.
• Proficiency in CAD and awareness of BIM/3D tools (Revit, Navisworks).
• Experience in HVDC converter station and/or substation design covering tender and execution.
• Familiarity with contract specs, quality standards, safety requirements, and safe-by-design.

Responsibilities

• Design & Delivery Lead for HVDC converter stations and HV/EHV substations, ensuring standards compliance.
• Develop and review integrated 3D model, general arrangement and layout drawings.
• Review vendor drawings and specifications for alignment with project requirements.
• Ensure high-quality and timely delivery of engineering outputs.
• Lead primary design calculations: busbar sizing, short circuit, SAG-tension, grounding.
• Mentor and coach HVDC engineers, managing workload and project objectives.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams, clients, and suppliers to resolve queries.
• Manage design budgets, track engineering time, and ensure on-time delivery to procurement.
