Job summary

WSP is seeking an Associate/Associate Director to lead flood risk management projects for Local Authorities across the UK. The role focuses on delivery, governance, and technical leadership within a national team, with opportunities to work across multiple offices.

You will mentor teams, manage budgets and schedules, and contribute to business growth while advancing sustainable water solutions for communities.

Qualifications

• A degree in a relevant environmental, geographical, science or engineering discipline is essential.
• Chartered status with C.WEM, CEnv, CSci or CEng is desired for Principal or evidence of working towards chartership for Senior.
• Experience in flood risk management with Local Authorities or public/private sector flood risk management.
• Excellent communication and mentoring skills; liaison with senior colleagues.
• Knowledge of surface water drainage modelling and Sustainable Drainage Systems.
• Experience preparing Local Flood Risk Management Strategies and Strategic Flood Risk Assessments.
• Demonstrable experience in technical report writing and checking.

Responsibilities

• Engage with clients and develop trusted advisor relationships.
• Lead delivery of high-quality technical deliverables as reviewer/approver.
• Mentor junior colleagues and oversee small project teams.
• Manage projects balancing programme, budget and quality.
• Lead opportunities to win new projects and extensions.
• Promote H&S behaviours within the team.
• Grow WSP’s technical capability through knowledge sharing.
