Job summary

TWI Ltd is seeking a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership in Friction Welding & Processing, working on high-value projects across aerospace, space, nuclear and defence sectors. Based in Sheffield, the role offers on-site work with permanent, full-time employment.

You will lead delivery, mentor engineers, and develop new opportunities while collaborating with government and industry partners. A BPSS clearance is required; some travel in the UK is expected.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Materials Science or related discipline, ideally Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status.
• Experience leading technical teams and delivering complex engineering projects.
• Strong stakeholder and client management skills.
• Experience developing technical proposals and securing work.
• Proven ability to mentor and develop engineering talent.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of complex engineering and research programmes.
• Act as a recognised technical authority across key industry sectors.
• Develop trusted relationships with customers, industry partners and government stakeholders.
• Identify and secure new business opportunities.
• Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and mentor staff.
• Represent TWI at customer meetings, conferences and industry events.
