Job summary

GM Performance Power Units seeks a lead engineer to drive MGU integration and performance within the Formula 1 powertrain. You will steer cross-functional teams across electromagnetics, mechanical design, thermal, controls, and advanced manufacturing to deliver race-ready solutions.

The role emphasizes prototype development, dynamometer testing, and data-driven iterations, with a focus on FIA F1 regulations, materials research, and scalable high-quality e-motor production in a startup racing

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience with high-speed electric motors or hybrid powertrains preferred.
• Ability to thrive in a startup racing environment with a legacy of engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-disciplinary teams—electromagnetics, mechanical design, thermal, controls, and advanced manufacturing—to integrate and optimize the MGU within the hybrid powertrain.
• Oversee prototype development and dynamometer testing programs; drive data-driven iterations.
• Direct design reviews, FMEA processes, and FIA F1 regulation compliance for MGU power, weight, RPM limits, and safety interfaces.
• Foster innovation through research into advanced materials and manufacturing advances; apply DFM/ DFA principles for scalable e-motor production.
