Job summary

Herefordshire Council is seeking a Principal Building Control Surveyor to lead the Building Control team at an operational level, including day-to-day activities and deputising for the manager when required.

You will supervise Building Control Surveyors and Technical Support Officers, manage regulatory applications and inspections, and work with IT to maintain accurate records. A strong background in building control and regulatory knowledge is essential.

Qualifications

• Understanding of the role of a registered building inspector and knowledge of the building safety regulator.
• Strong knowledge of building control and current legislation.
• Ability to work under your own initiative as well as within a team, often to tight deadlines and on multiple work streams.

Responsibilities

• Head up an existing team of Building Control Surveyors and Technical Support Officers to provide the building control service at an operational level, including day-to-day activities and admin duties.
• Deputise for the building control manager as necessary.
• Deal with internal and external customers regarding regulation applications, site inspections, charges, pre-application advice and enforcement enquiries.
