Herefordshire Council is seeking a Principal Building Control Surveyor (RBI 3) to lead the Building Control Team at Hereford. You will oversee day‑to‑day operations, inspections, and regulatory compliance while deputising for the Building Control Manager when needed.

You will manage a team of surveyors and support staff, ensuring accurate records, reporting, and high standards of service. Attractive LGPS benefits, progression paths, and flexible working are offered.

Qualifications

• Understanding of the role of a registered building inspector and the requirements of the building safety regulator.
• Strong knowledge of building control, regulatory issues and current legislation.
• Ability to work under your own initiative as well as in a team, often to tight deadlines and on multiple work streams.

Responsibilities

• Head up an existing team of Building Control Surveyors and Technical Support Officers to provide the building control service at an operational level, including day‑to‑day activities and admin duties; deputise for the Building Control Manager when required.
• Deal with internal and external customers on building control matters such as regulation applications, site inspections, pre‑application advice and enforcement enquiries.
• Work with IT providers to maintain up‑to‑date records and prepare periodic data reports; report to the Building Control Manager.
