5 Star Recruitment is seeking an Area Building Control Surveyor to oversee plan checking, site inspections, and enforcement of Building Regulations across a borough. The role requires authoritative knowledge, substantial practical Building Control experience, and the ability to advise the public and colleagues on regulatory matters.

The post involves supervising staff, handling emergencies, and ensuring timely decision making, with a focus on safety, compliance, and service delivery.

Qualifications

• Authoritative knowledge of Building Regulations and related legislation
• Substantial practical experience in Building Control including plan examination and site inspections
• Ability to communicate effectively with public, developers and professionals

Responsibilities

• Examine Building Regulation plans for compliance and request information as needed
• Carry out site inspections ensuring conformance with Regulations
• Issue approvals or enforcement actions within statutory timelines
• Advise customers and stakeholders on Building Regulation processes
• Lead and mentor Trainee and Assistant Surveyors
• Respond to emergencies and manage dangerous structures as required
• Prepare evidence and attend court as required
• Maintain accurate records of inspections and decisions
