Job summary

Herefordshire Council is seeking a Principal Building Control Surveyor to lead the Building Control team in Hereford. The role focuses on operational leadership, regulatory compliance and delivering a high quality service with day-to-day management responsibilities and deputising for the Building Control Manager when needed.

You will manage applications, inspections and enforcement matters, ensuring accurate records and timely reporting while collaborating across departments to support council

Qualifications

• Registered building inspector with RBI 3 and knowledge of the building safety regulator
• Strong knowledge of building control, regulatory issues and current legislation
• Ability to work on own initiative as well as in a team under tight deadlines and multiple work streams

Responsibilities

• Head up an existing team of Building Control Surveyors and Technical Support Officers to provide building control services at an operational level, including day-to-day activities and departmental administration
• Deputise for the Building Control Manager when required
• Deal with internal and external customers on applications, site inspections, levies, pre-application advice, dangerous structure reports and enforcement enquiries
• Work with IT providers to maintain up-to-date records and prepare periodic data reports
• Collaborate with colleagues to address council projects and report to the Building Control Manager
